Blog Post 9/30

Read the next 2 stories in KK. Write a blog post in response to the first 3 stories. Choose a theme that you see to be common in all 3 and explore what Danticat is showing us or asking us to think about this theme. Analyze 2 direct quotes. 500 words  After reading the next two stories in Krik Krak which are "nineteen thirty- seven" and "A Wall of Fire Rising" you can clearly tell a similarity between the first three stories.  Edwidge Danticat talks a lot about death, violence, and hopelessness.  Personally, I think hopelessness is the major theme so far.  I think this because in each of the last three stories it has talked about death and hoping to have hope.  Each story talks about death and violence as well.  All the Haitian people see is death and sadness.  I think the people in Haiti are all hopeless because people are doing bad things that can and will eventually kill them.  All the characters see and reflect off of other horrible things...

Reading Notes- Krik? Krak!

Krik? Krak! Reading Notes:  Children of the Sea Characters in "Children of the Sea": - 2 narrators (Male and Female) Pregnant teenager named Celianne Plot:  These two narrators are main characters so far and have been sending each other letter to show their love.  Female's father wants to protect her from the Macoutes.  The female narrators family has heard a Macoute kill their neighbor because he was in this Federation. Male narrator tries escaping Haiti with a pregnant women in a boat.  A Macoute apparently raped the pregnant women. they are forced to go back Female narrator sees a black butterfly which symbolizes that the male narrator is dead. My Feedback:  After reading this part, you can connect this to the real life what was happening in Haiti when everyone was escaping the island as illegal immigrants.  The Macoutes and the Government are making the Haitian people miserable.  It talks a lot about death.  For example, beca...

History of Haiti

Haiti is a Country in the Caribbean and is neighbors with the the Dominican- Republic.  There are a couple of small islands in Haiti called Haspaniola, Grand Caye, tortue and other smaller islands.  Haiti won their independence from the Country of France.  Haiti was the second Country to do this with the United States being the first to free themselves.  Throughout time Haiti has many hit with many problems that cause poverty.  Many kids like Edwinge Danticat flew to the Unites States as immigrants.  The land in Haiti has high elevations and not too many rivers.  The island was first discovered by Indians.  If you may not know the word "Haiti" means "the body of land."  After the French revolution the slaves took down the colonists and spread all around.  About 1.2 million Haitian people are in the United States.  there were five major immigrations which were, The Haitian Revolution, The United States Occupation of Haiti, the perio...

Edwidge Danticat Information

Edwidge Danticat was born on January 19, 1969 in the Country of Haiti.  In her time she flew over as an immigrant.  She is an author who writes about the relationships of women.  Coming from the poor country of Haiti she writes most about injustice, power, and poverty.  This is very important to her.  When she flew over to America from Haiti she was about the age of four.  Coming from Haiti to the United States was different and challenging not knowing much about what's going on.  I could only imagine what it was like for her to move from one country to another.  After immigrating she wanted to write books that are now called, Krik?Krak!, The Dew Breaker, Claire of the sea light and brothers, and a few more novels.  She went to college in New York where she wrote books about Haitian Women.  She wrote some of the books based off of the life in Haiti.  In fact, she earned many awards for her books.  Lastly, she penned the 2010 Es...

Reflecting Blog Post

I thought todays in class quiz went well.  I felt like most of the questions were common sense.  I knew the blocking part directions like Down, Center, Left.  I also knew what most of the theaters look like which are black box, proscenium theatre, thaters in the round, and thrust stages.  I knew some of the terms like cue, script, antagonist, protagonist, projection, props, color, and lighting design.  I was unsure about the actors like Stanislavski, Viola, and others.  I was not sure about the question of whos created the nine questions.  I did not study too much on these famous actors.  I also was not sure about the term that a character wanted to achieve a goal or scene.  I felt I studied most of the important terms which helped me with most of the questions.  I feel I need more work on knowing the famous actors like Stanislavski and how they affected theater and play acts.  Also, who they are in general and what they are most fa...

In class acts

Queation:  reflect on what you saw today; what did the mini-performances capture about the play? (content, form, theme, etc.) Discuss all 3 performances. Today in class we were mini acts representing the book, Fires in the Mirror by Anna Deavere Smith.  each was given a topic and had to find a certain section about their topic.  For example, in my group we were given the topic of violence where we would have to find certain parts in the book to present in front of the class.  the three topics were, religion, violence, and politics.   To start off in the first group which they had a very nice look and feel when they presented.  I really liked how Stella and David went up and down to show who was speaking.  This performance I guess was split into smaller scenes that all connected to the main idea of the radio that would not be able to turn off during Shabbat.  This was a terrible time for the Jewish people.  They really showed how the ...

Question:  What is theater, in your opinion? What makes it good to participate in, to perform, or to watch? Why do people do theater or watch it or like it? Why do YOU? What aspects of theater are most important for performers to learn and think about? In your experience, what is easy and fun about theater and what is challenging? I think theater as a performance or play that is performed by many actors.  Theaters involve a story like Romeo and Juliet.  You perform these plays with people replacing the original character.  Theater is viewed from families who watch the play almost like it is the actually thing.  To participate you must show character and great expressions.  Being apart of a play seems to be challenging, hard work, and talented.  Not everyone has the guts to be on stage and perform in front of a decently large crowd.  When you participate in theater you seem to create goof friendships with the others who are also pa...
