Blog Post #2

Jacob Lebowitz April 21, 2018 Ib Literature and performance   Seize The Day Reflection  Throughout the past week or two we have been reviewing an performing the prom, Seize the Day by Judith Ortiz Cofer.  This poem has been very interesting to act out.  Groups were created and had to create there own type of performance.  For my group we decided to rotate each stanza and cut of some lines from some of the stanzas.  This poem is much different than other poems because it includes some spanish.  This poem can be seen in many different ways or views.  This poem requires you to read it multiple times for yourself to see the true meaning that Judith is trying to point out during the poem reading.          This poem is seen as very positive and good for yourself.  In the poem it says "Let water heal your body."  This poem seems to be all good things not bad things.  Also how it mentions to bathe yourself. ...

My Poem that I am going to Perform

Fire and Ice  By Robert Frost Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice.

In class writing on: Seize the Day

The writing due today (in class for A period) should discuss the 6 adaptations, your own plus 5 others done by your peers. Assess them in terms of strengths and weaknesses. The entire writing should be 400-600 words. You have until tonight to finish/revise it. Also, for Saturday, the poem that you should choose to perform should not be too short and it should be a printed poem, not a spoken word poem. You will adapt it into a performance but it must exist as a printed text first. We will discuss this more in class, and email me your other questions. Thanks! Throughout this week both classes had to perform the poem, Seize The Day by Judith Ortiz Cofer.  To talk about my group first, I was with David and Aaron.  All of us were all not sure what we were gonna do to perform this poem.  We then came to a conclusion that we would alternate stanzas and cute off some of the lines remaining in some stanzas.  Each stanza we decided to read all together and then the next sent...

Poetry Blog Post

For this poetry blog post I have chose to do Seize the day by Judith Ortiz Cover.  This poem basically covers the true meaning of life.  It is very detailed and descriptive that brings a positive vibe to yourself.  Many poems are very deep and gloomy but this poem is happy and motivating for not only the author but also the reader.  The way the author made this poem is very interesting because he has a clear description of what that life is like. Throughout the poem as I was reading I realized that there was some personification and metaphor sentences.  When it says "Who can choose not to break into song at dawn?"  In class we were reading this poem and throughout I was thinking when this would be taken place.  Of course I was thinking more towards the morning because dawn happens early in the morning.  Both the birds and the people wake up.  Birds can't really sing though in the early morning.  I also said there was metaphors in the li...

Analyzing poem

This is just to say: Rhythm:  breakfast and delicious Alliteration kind of at the end when it says, “So sweet and so cold” 1.) Sounds:  I can kinda here the ice in icebox.  Can almost feel the sweetness of the plums that are being eaten.  Also, how cold the plums are.  The sounds from your lips seem the same. 2.). Picture:  you can picture the plums being eaten when it says “they were delicious, so sweet, and so cold.  The persons guilty from eating the plums.  I see that this can be during the summer at night 3.). Story(meaning):  the person ate the plums that were suppose to be for breakfast but the person could not resist from eating them all.  The plums were in the icebox so they would be cold for breakfast.  The person could not help himself from eating the delicious plums

Notes Part 3

Bunch of description of words Scansion, trochee, prose, spondee, anapest, lambic pentameter, tetrameter the poems are very set up show good use of examples Rythym  Some don’t really make sense Scansion Iambic pentameter Constancy 3 limes at least to make the part rhyme Changes feelings Sometimes pauses All poems are different Needs to be reasonable

Livrary Poem

CA library is a silent place Many books with stories hiding Mrs. Hovasse is always there to help She knows the books by heart The books are her children

Poetry Reading Part 2:

Notes 29-34 pages The words are detailed Makes you think  Can be thought in other ways The poems work and to understand them you should probably read  them more than once The tone and rhythm are used very well The sound is also very noticeable  In the poem there is some alliteration and onomotopia Assonance is also used when it repeats the same vowel in the words Connection between all the poems My favorite is alliteration cause it can be a tongue twister when it comes to saying the same first letter throughout each word in the sentence.

Notes

Useful sounds The sounds make the poem better and worthy The sounds are used appropriately Lots of vowels used that stand out Like a,e,u,i,y Semi vowels are also very important that help the poem itself The poem is better with the sounds The sounds create realistic noises that you would hear\picture Mutes need a word Onomotopia
