Jacob Lebowitz Ib Literature and Performance 10/29/18 Choose 2 different ones that help show you some interesting thinking about the book. KK Blog Post 4 due. Choose two of the discussion questions posted on the blog. Use/analyze at least 2 direct quotes in your writing. 500 words. 1. What do all the stories have in common?  What theme does the writer want to come across in this writing? I feel like all the stories had hopelessness.  Al the stories in "Krik Krak," show unnamed characters who are serving and fleeing in the country of Haiti.  At the time the Haitian Government and the Macoutes are taking over the country of Haiti.  All these stories represent Haitian people surviving in many way.  For example, in Children of the Sea the two loved writers who are in love talk about how the Macoutes are taking over the country.  The male writer is trying to flee the country with a pregnant women.  This pregnant women has no hope and kills herself...

Caroline's Wedding Reading Notes

Caroline's Wedding Reading Notes  There are multiple characters listed - Grace - The mother - Caroline the sister - It seems that Grace is very important to her mother and sister - Grace wants to take care of her family just like in other chapters in "Krik Krak" - Grace is kind of like Night Women -She wants the best for herself and family - Grace is a positive character.  She wants to be there for her sister and mother when they are having issues -  Caroline is engaged -  This chapter relates with the setting of Haiti because her mom is from Haiti -  Although the mom is Haitian I think she is American -  What does she think of herself? -  The parents fled Haiti just like everyone else - Since Caroline is engaged Grace is by herself - she sees America as a different world and lost -  They now have freedom to do whatever they want to do - Grace does not want her sister to forget about the past - It seems like her and Caroline we...

Blog Post #3

Jacob Lebowitz  After reading the chapters, "Night Women" and "New York Day Women," they both had similarities and differences.  Night women is a Mother from Brooklyn, New York.  The narrator who is talking about her mother watches her during the day.  Although, in "Night Women," the Mothers child does not know what she does at night for a living.  There is a similarity which is there secretes.  They both do not tell there secretes and are hidden.  The Mother in "New York Day Women," expresses her Haitian culture when talking to the taxi driver.  In the United States, it is not normal to see road rage while in Haiti if something so little happens the people get very mad at each other.  The United States has more freedom than in Haiti.  The mother in "New York Day Women," has the right to get a job even though she did not get an education.  There are lots of low paying jobs in the United States that do not require an education. ...

Dianne Ackerman Notes for Tomorrow

Author Diane Ackerman will visit our class today. Read her poems/writing (on class blog) and take notes. Be prepared to participate in class, and post two possible questions that you might ask her on your blog. Notes: As I am reading some of her poems I realized that she uses and writes a lot of metaphors and similes  The poems that I have read are very positive, presenting a happy vibe for the poem I like how she describes her ways  Most poems do not go into as much detail as this her poems are simple (Not confusing) I also like how I read the poem first and then compare it to how the author of the poem sees/ reads it.   I also like how it is from her perspective so we can picture what she is describing Very different poems I really like the detail and how you're supposed to eat an apricot Questions: How do you come up with such such simple but uncommon poems? Do these poems have a connection?  What are the relations you have with your p...

Reflection on Class acts

Post a short reflection on your blog -- what did Tuesday's in-class performances reveal about the characters and stories presented? What was interesting and what did it make you think about or realize? 250-300 words    In class we got to perform our own charcater throughout the story of, “Krik, Krak.”  I worked with Ivan and we both performed as night women.  I think we had one of the most creative performances out of the groups.  Ivan and I came up with two different scenes that night women does.  This really showed how she cares about her son and works at night as a prostitute.  I really got a good understanding of night women and how she is poor, living in a small house, with her son.  We showed that she does not want her son knowing what she does as a job by dividing half of the room.  One side is the sons room and the other is for night womens visitors.  You can tell that not much surrounds her, and if she needs help she goes t...

KK Blog Post #2

KK Blog Post 2 due. Choose one character from the first 4 stories and do a character analysis using Uta Hagen's 9 questions. 500 words  The Character that I chose is Night Women. Questions: Who am I? Night women.  Night women is a 25 years old and has a son.  She currently is a prostitute who hates her job.  She works as a prostitute only to support her son.  Without a job her son would have a challenging life with no education.  Before her son grows up she does not want him to find out about this job.  It would be awful if her son found out what she was doing every night.  Soon he will know and she will be prepared to tell lies to protect him. What time is it? In this chapter of the book, it did not really mention a specific time of day.  Like I was saying, most of this chapter is based off of her working at night so it is clearly taken place mostly at night when she works as a prostitute.   Where am I? She is...
