Blog Post 9/30

Read the next 2 stories in KK. Write a blog post in response to the first 3 stories. Choose a theme that you see to be common in all 3 and explore what Danticat is showing us or asking us to think about this theme. Analyze 2 direct quotes. 500 words

After reading the next two stories in Krik Krak which are "nineteen thirty- seven" and "A Wall of Fire Rising" you can clearly tell a similarity between the first three stories.  Edwidge Danticat talks a lot about death, violence, and hopelessness.  Personally, I think hopelessness is the major theme so far.  I think this because in each of the last three stories it has talked about death and hoping to have hope.  Each story talks about death and violence as well.  All the Haitian people see is death and sadness.  I think the people in Haiti are all hopeless because people are doing bad things that can and will eventually kill them.  All the characters see and reflect off of other horrible things happening to people in their Country.  Death of people going through this horrible time is seen and read in each of these stories so far.
In the first story we read which was, "Children of the sea," many people are trying to escape just like Celianne who is the young pregnant girl.  She did not wanna be killed by the Macoutes.  The Macoutes tortured Celianne and her brother.  Celianne became pregnant from one of the Macoutes and her brother was put in jail who is probably dead.  Celianne could not do anything about her born baby so she killed her self and brought the baby to die in the sea.  Her family was certainly going to die because of the Macoutes torture on her family.
The second story was called, "Nineteen Thirty- Seven," which talked about manman.  There was a quote given that said, "People are just too hopeful, and sometimes hope is the biggest weapon of all to use against us."  This just shows that hope is a bad thing the people in Haiti tend to use.  Hope is used against the Haitian people.  We hear the hopelessness of manman who is eventually beaten up.
In the last story that we had to read was, "A wall of Fire Rising."  This talks about the character Guy who is not happy with the Haitian Government also known as the Macoutes.  Guy sees no hope in his life and decides to jump off of a hot air ballon.  He unfortunately had a wife and kid.  "All anyone can hope for is just a tiny bit of love..."  Haitian people just want hope, love, and peace.  Unfortunately, it isn't that easy to get.  This part has showed what the Haitian people go through.  There has been no help from anybody and this causes the death for the Haitian people.  It is very sad to hear all these innocent citizens of Haiti commit suicide.  This is not what life is suppose to be.  It is sad to think that all the people do is pray and pray but still do not get something back.  The Macoutes are a very dangerous government that commands the people.  I could not imagine living a life back then where people try to flee their own country for the United States.
