Krik? Krak! Reading Notes:  Children of the Sea

Characters in "Children of the Sea":
- 2 narrators (Male and Female)
Pregnant teenager named Celianne

Plot:  These two narrators are main characters so far and have been sending each other letter to show their love.  Female's father wants to protect her from the Macoutes.  The female narrators family has heard a Macoute kill their neighbor because he was in this Federation.

Male narrator tries escaping Haiti with a pregnant women in a boat.  A Macoute apparently raped the pregnant women.

they are forced to go back
Female narrator sees a black butterfly which symbolizes that the male narrator is dead.

My Feedback:  After reading this part, you can connect this to the real life what was happening in Haiti when everyone was escaping the island as illegal immigrants.  The Macoutes and the Government are making the Haitian people miserable.  It talks a lot about death.  For example, because the women got raped and is pregnant she commits suicide.  Also, when the female narrator sees the black butterfly it shows death.  It is a very brutal life to be living in Haiti at the time.
