In class acts

Queation:  reflect on what you saw today; what did the mini-performances capture about the play? (content, form, theme, etc.) Discuss all 3 performances.

Today in class we were mini acts representing the book, Fires in the Mirror by Anna Deavere Smith.  each was given a topic and had to find a certain section about their topic.  For example, in my group we were given the topic of violence where we would have to find certain parts in the book to present in front of the class.  the three topics were, religion, violence, and politics.
To start off in the first group which they had a very nice look and feel when they presented.  I really liked how Stella and David went up and down to show who was speaking.  This performance I guess was split into smaller scenes that all connected to the main idea of the radio that would not be able to turn off during Shabbat.  This was a terrible time for the Jewish people.  They really showed how the Jews were treated differently.  They explained how the Jewish woman asked the african american to help her with this sound.
The second group was also very nice.  They seemed to be more racist and violent when they presented.  They all had good use of emotion and you could picture what was happening when they presented.  Cassidy had good emotion with violence connected with my groups lines.  They presented the racism and prejudice parts very well.  I could really understand what there topic was about.
Lastly, my group presented last.  In my group it was me, Jack, and Jasmine.  I thought we did well.  I really liked the use and tone of the music which was different but good compared to the other groups.  This mellow sort of music really set the setting and what people were going to expect.  Jasmine was the Jewish person while I was a Black person for the black community talking about my hate for The Jewish People.  Jasmine was a Jew and said that they Black community was rioting and wanted to destroy all the Jews.  i think we all did great presenting these mini acts to the class!
