Adaption Proposal
First:
1. What story or stories (scene or scenes)
I was think of combining children of the sea and Carolines wedding stories.
2. Why will it be interesting?
I think this will be interesting because it will show the different sides. One side it will have the two loved narrators separating because of the country. Then on the other side I will show the family fleeing the country and then when they get to the U.S they must get citizenship to be there.
3. Character list/ Number of characters
5 Characters.
4. Directors vision (Details about plot, setting, what the focus will be)
How the male narrator in the children of the sea is fleeing the country just like in Caroline's wedding. I can also show some of the traditions before they would have to flee. I feel like the main theme is escaping and death. Danticats stories are based on death and hoplessness and I feel it is important to show these important themes
5. What aspects of the text/literary analysis will you be hoping to highlight?
Leaving the country. The separation of love and traditions. Hopelessness and new life.
I was also thinking about using the story, Night Women. I feel like this story is important because she has separation from her son but does not want him to know what she does as a living. I feel asa director, I would have 2 side, one side the kids room and the other side the prostitutes room. All the money that she is making should be put "under the chair". Every time someone is coming over Night Women says its his father. The son wonders and is curious about Night Women job. She tells him that she wants him to live a better life than what he is experiencing right now. I feel like as an "angel" this angel should be watching over them and protecting them with positivity and hope. When they both go to sleep after Night Womens job the angel comes to Night Women and talks with her. This play would recquire only three or four people. Instead of the little boy i can replace him with little guy. As the angl I could possibly have Guy from Wall of Fire rising as the angel.
