Scene Proposals

Grace and I are working together and we chose 2 different scenes.  The first scene is when Amanda asks Tom about the fire escape that he always uses as an "excuse" to get out of the house.  The other scene is at the end when Tom has decided that he wants to leave Amanda and Laura in the dust.  This scene is when Amanda is arguing with Tom about his departure.  I think these two scenes are really important in the glass menagerie.  The fire escape is really a "card" that Tom uses a lot in the story.  He always says that he is going out for a smoke but really he goes into town and gets really drunk.  His excuse when he comes home is very frustrating at least to Laura and Amanda.  He always say "I went to the movies" but he really did not.  If I was Amanda I would also be pissed that he is coming home late every other night.  At the end, Tom has just had it with his mother, Amanda.  He decides that he is leaving Amanda and Laura with nothing but remeberance of him.  This story is almost like a circle cause in the beginning it talked about how Tom's father left Amanda.  Now Tom is leaving Amanda.  Amanda is jobless and Laura has no future but to find a gentlmen caller.  Not only that but Laura is very unsocial and all she thinks about is her being with animals.  All Amanda wanted for Tom was to be safe but soon enough he got annoyed by her. I think this scene is sad for Amanda and Laura cause Tom was there only hope for support and soon both of them are going to be living on the streets.  In both of these scenes I and going to be play Tom.  I want to play Tom cause I feel the main lines Tom are saying fit me better than Grace.  Grace and I want to explore the main idea of the arguments between Tom and Amanda and how it is too much for Tom to handle.
