Tom is the son of Amanda Wingfield. Tom feels like he is living in prison with his mom and sister, Laura. Tom's emotion have changed throughout the reading so far. I feel Tom just wants to live his life and make his own choices. In class we were guessing the age for Tom. We said about twenty-ish years old. Back then the laws were less strict. You could drink at the age of 18 but today it is age twenty-one. Knowing that Tom is pretty much an adult he should be able to do whatever he wants and make his own decisions. His mom seems to be to curious what he is doing all the time. Tom really does hate his life. He does house work for his mother. Tom works and makes money for his family. Tom is kinda selfish in a way. Tom is selfish because he makes money and feels that he should not use his money to help him and his family. If I was in Tom's potion I would be mad at my mom but I would wanna help my family by having a job. "A trick that would come in handy for me to get me out of this 2 x 4 situation." This quote that Tom said in the text is him explaining how he can get out of the house with a reasonable answer for his mom.
Amanda is the mother of Laura and Tom Wingfield. Amanda is a normally, strict mother. Unfortunately Amanda's husband abandoned her and the family. It is very sad to think your husband is out there not with Laura or Tom. Amanda's husband left a year ago. Thankfully they still have a picture of him hanging on there wall at home. I think this picture is still up cause they hope he comes back one day. They have yet to hear from him. Not only that but Amanda is very poor and one day they all may be living on the streets. Right now, Amanda and her family are living in a small apartment near St. Louis, Missouri. All Amanda wants is for her two kids to be alright for the future and not to live on the streets. She gets mad at times. For example Amanda said in the text "You're not crippled!..." This quote was being said to Laura because she does not want to waste more money on health. At least this somewhat shows Amanda's character. I feel Amanda does not really care about Laura and her health issues.
Lastly, Laura who is 2 years older than her brother Tom. Laura's mother is also Amanda. Laura does not have a job and Amanda hopes she can get married to a somewhat wealthy man so then she is set for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, Laura did not attend college because they had no money to put in to the education. Laura is a very shy character who is crippled. Laura seems to always bee in an unrealistic world. For example, she always wants to escape her family and pretend she is with animals some where else. "I went in the art museum and there were bird houses in the zoo." This quote is just imagined what she was thinking about in her nonrealistic mind.
