Explain the choices you made in class for the casting/object selection for Romeo and Juliet. Who did you choose and why? Who did you leave out and why? What objects did you choose and why? How will your character use this object in the play? What effect will this have on your production overall? Also, if you were ti use your classmates, explain who you would cast in these roles and why.
In class we are reading the Romantic play, Romeo and Juliet. So far our class is up to the beginning of Act five. In class we were assigned to give the ten most important characters in the play objects. These objects can be anything but must choose wisely. In my group it was me, Cassidy, and Aaron. We all worked very hard to determine which characters were best and what object best represented them in the play. To start off with Romeo, we chose armour for him. We chose armour for him because it showed that he was brave enough to fight Tybalt and show that he is a fierce and does not give up. For Juliet we picked a folding fan (black/ white). We picked this item for her because at times she did not want to be recognized or seen. When she was with Romeo she could not be seen with a Montague or else there would be problems between the Capulets and the Montagues. This also showed at the end that she wanted to be dead but not dead for them to realize that she was actually dead. Throughout the whole play, Juliet never wanted to marry Paris and when the marriage day came she wanted to kill her self instead of getting married to him. For Tybalt we gave him a sword because he was very agressive all the time and all he wanted to do was fight Romeo. As for Mercutio we gave him a dagger to show the object Mercutio fought with against the angry Tybalt. Friar Lawrence we had him with a vial of potion to show the oobject he gave to Juliet. Juliet was hesitating to take this potion cause she was not sure if this would kill her. For the nurse we gave her a tissue box. We gave her a tissue box because she has always been there for Juliet amd when Tybalt died she would be there to help Juliet get through it with tissues. Paris has always been seen as the best man so we gave him a nice, shiny, gold ring to not only show his wealth but also as a wedding ring for his love, Juliet. For the Prince we gave him an extra big crown to show that he is the leader and the Prince of everyone. Usually, crowns show whos the leader and in charge of everyone. For Lord Capulet we gave him a nice staff. This staff is almost like a cane to show the wealth and leadership or the Lord. As for Lady Capulet we gave her a nice trench coat to show that she is better than everyone else. Lady Capulet has always thought of herself, better than everyone else. Unlike all the other groups my group and I did not include Benvolio, the servants, Friar John, Montagues, Rosaline, and Apothecare. We felt all these groups and people did not help the story show te meaning of the play. Benvolio was seen very few times and did not effect the story. They each use these objects to whether it was to kill, fight, show wealth, power, bravery each and every character had a different object and meaning that they showed in the play. This will effect my production because it can make it clearer what type of person and each of these ten characters are whether they are nice, mean, angry, rich, stubborn etc. If I was to assign all ten of these characters to people in my class I would first start off with Romeo as myself. I think of myself as brave and not the type of guy to fight for no reason. Unless someone made me very angry like Tybalt then I would fight them. For Juliet I would give Grace as Juliet because she seems nice like Juliet and willing to do anything as long as she wont get caught. Tybalt I would give David as him because he is very Agressive and raises his boice well. For Mercutio I would have Yun be him because Yun is a friend of mine and would stick up for me. Friar Lawrence I would give to Denny because he seems like he is good at pursuading people to do something. For the nurse I would give that to Cassidy. For Paris I would give that to Aaron. For the Prince I would give that to the Other David. For Lady Capulet I would give that to Stella. Lastly, for Lord Capulet I would give that to Mrs. Guarino.
