Romeo and Juliet Monologue- Jacob Lebowitz

The Romantic and Dramatic Romeo and Juliet Play

On a cold, chilly night on Friday September 1, 2017 our wonderful class got to watch the romantic and dramatic play, Romeo and Juliet at Edgertown park in Hamden, Connecticut.  Many have heard of the popular William Shakspear who has wrote many plays and books.  His style of writing is very interesting than others.  Most of his stories are romantic with love.  For example, last year my class and I read Othello which was about how this evil man named Iago who tried screwing with Othello and Desdemona's life.   The way you read his plays and books are read very awkwardly.  He uses slang that most authors do not use.  Anyways, coming into the park I had not known much about the play, Romeo and Juliet.  I knew it was another romantic love story but did not know the actually story between Romeo and Juliet and how they came together.  Our class was one of the first to get there so we could get a good spot to watch the performance.  When we sat down I look up and saw this beautiful stage.  To me, it looked like a real stage that had a perfect setting which was outside in the woods.  In all,  I was very interested in the story and how the found each other.

In the beginning of the play, there was a fight between the families of Verona.  The two sides of the family were the Capulets and the Montagues.  Romeo was part of the Montague family and Juliet was part of the Capulet family.  Suddenly, Romeo saw his true love Juliet.  He just knew she was the perfect match for him.  Although, there was one problem which is the fact that both there families were enemies.  Romeo could not miss this moment so he asked the friar if he somehow could get married to the beautiful Juliet.  Then Mercutio and the montages crash the Capulets party.  Tybalt and Mercutio go into battle but Tybalt ends up killing Mercutio who is Romeos partner.  Romeo is angry and takes over and ends up killing Tybalt who is in fact Juliet's cousin.  I asked myself,  "would Romeo and Juliet still be together?"  Juliet hears about Romeo killing her cousin.  She still wants to be with Romeo even though everyone from Capulet wants Juliet to marry Paris.  Not only that but the fact that Romeo killed her cousin.  If I was Juliet I would be very confused about my decision.  Juliet ends up killing herself by drinking poison hoping Romeo would follow so they could live happily ever after.  I really liked Romeo in the play.  Romeo was very energetic and did not mess up once.  One example that I really like was when he came out into the crowd and started talking to us (The audience).  Also, when he battles Tybalt and knows all the moves he has to do to defeat her.  A major theme in the play was love.  At first Juliet was already in love with another guy which was not Romeo.  All of a sudden, Romeo and Juliet meet when there is fight with both there families,  After that,  Romeo new that Juliet was his true love that he has been waiting for.  During the play he would do anything just to see Juliet.  For example, when he went to the Capulets household and met Juliet outside of her deck.  In all, all the actors were great and seemed confident in their acting.

In conclusion, the story was very good and understood most of the performance.  At times, I was not really sure what happened but eventually made sense to me.  I think it is crazy that there were high schoolers who were apart of this play because to me it seemed like a very advanced play.  I really like the play and was impressed with the acting.  All in all,  I thought all the actors were very good and was impressed how good it was since most of the actors were high schoolers.  I would defiantly see another one of these performances just hopefully it will be warmer than that night.
