Blog Post #3- Jacob Lebowitz

          I really have like the devising and performing.  I like this because you don't have to memorize your lines you just kinda go with the flow of the story.  You have an idea of the story by making your own lines.  I find this not as stressful than the previous memorizing part.  You devise by forming a story with your group.  I like my group which is me, David, and Aaron.  I find they also like to go with the flow and also get the point of the story.  Aaron is a very good performer who shows good emotion and uses his voice well.  He makes me feel more comfortable on the stage when performing with him.  David is also a good performer.  He also uses his voice well.  For example, when he wants to be shy he lowers his voice but when he is very angry or mad he raises his voice.  I think my group is doing a very good job with this so far.  We have been discussing what to improve on which is stage placement.  Throughout our practicing we have had to work on making sure our backs are not against the audience.  This is very key and very noticeable.  We are doing well with the performing and acting.  I still sometimes get nervous when performing in front of an audience but at least this time it is with my group.  For myself, I am still not comfortable expressing my emotions but have to cause its a performance class.
         From watching others practice, they seem calm and good with expressing there emotions.  Some groups still have to know there parts for the performance.  Also from watching others, some tend to talk more than act.  Some of the stories are very hard to understand if you don't not show what you are feeling or trying to show the audience.  As for our group, I feel we have a strong beginning, middle, and end.  I felt some of the stories were kinda hard to follow.  I feel like some of the groups are too worried about there lines or about missing a part but devising is about coming up with an idea with a group and forming a story from it.  I have really liked this devising and performing so far and can not wait to perform it to you.  In all, I hope throughout the year we will do more of the devising and performing.

Self Evalution

I thought my performance and write up about my performance was alright.  I think like Cassidy washing to not right so much "fluff."  I really just wrote all this fluff to fill up word space and really want the IB people who are grading my essay to know what I did to be here today.  I also think I should try and talk less about every single thing I did to prepare myself for the act.  I want to add more about the performance and not as much about the literary analysis.  In my write up I wrote a lot about the literary analysis instead of the performance.  I feel that I do need some fluff or else there will be a bit of confusion about whats going on.  I should edit more of the literary analysis though and compare more Tom's emotion in the play to my performance.  I could also probably talk a little bit about Grace and I working together to fill up some space.  My biggest issue is the words and getting to 2000 words.  I feel it will be hard t...

Oral Presentation Practice:

#1.)  When I read the chapters, “The Wall of Fire Rising” and “Night Women” in the book Krik Krak by Edwinge Danticat, these two stories seemed to be the most eye catching to me.  When I say eye catching, they seemed different that all the other stories because most of these stories talked about the Hatian Culture and how everyone was fleeing the country because of the Macouts.  The Government was in full control of the Haitian people.  I thought these two chapters had a connection because they both have a mother and son but no father.  I thought this would make a good piece in our created performance cause we could see what both sides looked like in both stories.  In both chapters, Little Guy and Night Womens son were going through a tough time because Little Guy just lost his father and Night womens a prostetute.  After all, it seemed like the performance worked out by putting Lily as Night Women and Little Guy as Night Women's son.  It was a ve...
